Propel Schools Rev Up Scholar Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year

As families are preparing their scholars for a strong return to learning, Propel educators and staff hosted a meet and greet at each of our 13 locations last week to help with a smooth transition back into schools.

Propel Homestead educators were so excited to introduce themselves to new and returning scholars!

Lots of food, fun, and other important resources were provided at Propel McKeesport!

Propel Pitcairn scholars enjoyed Kona Ice while reminiscing with friends about their summer!

Propel Schools thanks Grifols for their support of our Northside Wellness Center

Grifols, an international bioscience company with a plasma donation center at 1330 Western Avenue on the Northside, made a generous monetary donation to the Propel Northside Wellness Center.

The donation was used to purchase personal care kits for 157 families who are supported by the Center. The care kits consisted of Colgate toothpaste, Dove Sensitive Skin bar soap, Dial deodorant, and Daily Defense Coconut Oil Moisturizing shampoo. The kits were distributed in bright blue Grifols tote bags at the Saturday morning food distribution hours hosted by the Wellness Center. The care kits and tote bags were very enthusiastically received.

Propel Schools' award-winning Afterschool Action Team Supports Scholar Voice in Statewide Student Academy Opportunity

The Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool Youth Development Network's (PSAYDN) Student Academy Orientation took place virtually July 30 and 31. Propel Action Team scholars David Owusu, Christine Berry, Aurianna Moore, Zariah Arnold-Stevens and DeAndre Josey along with Action Team Mentor Deanna Dugan from the PSAYDN Youth Voice Coalition Steering Committee took part in two days of leadership training. Under the guidance of Dr. Winnie Black (PSAYDN Stem Coordinator), Steven Williams (Associate Director of PSAYDN) and PSAYDN staff, scholars worked on self-discovery, goal setting and advocacy. One of the speakers, Dr. Latasia Jones, encouraged the scholars to persist as they journey through their careers. The scholars are now poised to be leaders in the PSAYDN Student Academy and the PSAYDN Youth Voice Coalition.

Propel Schools Reignites Scholar Learning for 2021-2022

As an organization, a team and a community asset, Propel is committed to moving forward with a carefully constructed, purposeful Recovery and Revitalization Plan that will be defined by equity, academic rigor, holistic support, performance recognition and high-levels of engagement from all stakeholders. The choices we collectively make over the next few years will be vital to our success and key in fulfilling our mission.

Traditionally, a strategic plan is an organizational roadmap, providing direction, defining priorities and outlining resources necessary to meet goals. Although Propel was on-track to create an updated 5 year strategic plan to begin in August 2021, the pandemic provided a powerful catalyst to temporarily set aside a traditional strategic plan in favor of a multi-year plan that will prioritize the ways our school communities will rebound, reboot and reflect our dedication to our mission.

Although this Recovery and Revitalization Plan is similar to a traditional strategic plan (in the sense that it provides direction and outlines priorities), it is decidedly unique in the way it will provide a systemic, holistic and data-based approach to reenergizing school communities through and beyond the pandemic.

After carefully aggregating all of the data and identifying key areas of need, five important Action Teams have been identified to carry out the work, progress, and development of the Recovery and Revitalization Plan which was presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in June 2021. These teams include the: MTSS Team, Attendance Team, DEI Team, Staff Diversity and Retention Team and the Operations and Safety Team. These five teams will be responsible for updating and monitoring the progress of the Action Plan components for 2021-2024 and providing feedback to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees.
